Pre War

Born in 1895 in Ware, Hertfordshire son of John and Louisa Gray and was living in 8 Kibes Lane in 1901 and in 1911 and was a gardener.

Wartime Service

He was awarded DCM for his action in the Battle of the Ancre where he was wounded. “For conspicuous gallantry in action. He displayed great courage and initiative when in charge of fourteen enemy prisoners who endeavoured to escape, and finally brought them back to Battalion Headquarters” London Gazette 26 Jan 1917. He was later killed in action.
