Pre War

Born on the 8th June 1895, in Little Berkhamstead, Herts. Son of George and Emma Long. Baptised on the 7th July 1895, in Little Berkhamstead, Herts. Allan was a resident of St Albans, Herts. The 1901 census shows Allen aged 5 living with his Parents, 1 Brother and 1 Sister at Pudds Cross, Bovingdon, Herts. and the 1911 census shows Allen aged 15 living with his Parents, 3 Brothers and 2 Sisters at The Jockey, Harpenden Road, St Albans, Herts. His occupation is given as a Farm Labourer.

Address later given as Hawkswick Cottages, St Albans.

Wartime Service

Allen enlisted in St Albans, Herts, into the 6th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment, with the service number 4/7185. He disembarked in France on the 11th October 1915.

Missing presumed killed at Arras - CWGC records as Allen Arthur, died 23/03/1917.

He died of wounds on the 23rd April 1917.
