In reserve during attack on Thiepval (26/9) - moved forward during night and made successful assault on north-western corner of village - C and D Companies advancing at about 5.45am (27/9). Fierce hand-to-hand fighing at Schwaben Redoubt (28/9). Second-Lieutenant T E Adlam awarded Victoria Cross. Withdrawn to Thiepval (29/9), Mailly-Maillet Wood (30/9).
