Albert Sidney Perry was born on 13 April 1893 in Bishop's Stortford to Edward and Louisa Perry and baptised on 31 May 1893 at Hockerill, Herts. The family were living at 1 Bramblefields, Stansted Road, Hockerill, Bishop's Stortford by 1901 where his father was Wellsinker. On the 1911 Census, he was living with his widowed father and siblings at 14 Stansted Road, Bramble Field, Bishop's Stortford, Herts and working as a Grocer’s Porter.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Bishop's Stortford and served in the 7th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. He served in France from 26 July 1915 and died from wounds received in action, probably in an assault on the German Trenches which took place on 1st July.
The 45th Casualty Clearing Station where he died had been situated at Daours in preparation of the Somme offensive of July 1916.
Additional Information
Brother to Alfred Perry who died on 24 December 1914 and Edward Perry who died 26 March 1917 both of whom are named on Bishop's Stortford Memorial. His father Edward received a war gratuity of £8 and pay owing of £10 16s 0d. He also received a pension of 5 shillings a week from 31 May 1921 for life.
