Born and baptised in 1895 in Sacombe Green, son of Samuel and Ellen Eliza (Mardell) Smith, of Sacombe Green, High Cross, Ware, Herts. Christened in St Catherine’s Church, Sacombe on 10 Mar 1895. Living in Sacombe Green with his parents in 1901, and living with his uncles and his mother in 1911 in Sacombe Green as a farm labourer.
Wartime Service
Enlisted at Hertford. Formerly 17136, Bedfordshire Regiment, entered France on 30 Aug 1915 and died of wounds in No. 45 Casualty Clearing Station in Dernancourt.
