His headstone inscription, chosen by his sister reads: “Oh for a touch of a vanished hand and a sound of a voice that is still”. Back pay and gratuities of £10 10s 7d paid to Herbert Bartin 12 Aug 1921 Probate, home address given as Oaklands Lane Cottages, Arkley. The estate of £203 17s was paid to Herbert Bartin.
