Pre War

Born 1888 Hatfield, Herts. Son of George and Mary Annie Lancaster, of Woodhall Lodge, Hatfield, Herts. On enlistment 15 April 1907, gave occupation as Groom. 1911 Census shows him as being already a Private with 2nd Bn., Cheshire Regiment serving in India.

Wartime Service

Went to France Nov 1914. Hospitalised with frostbite Feb 1915, had malaria Sept 1915 and gun shot wound to the forehead 5.9.16. Sent back to England to recover on each occasion. Also suffered from scabies several times April/May 1917.
