Pre War
Son of William and Ellen (nee BURTON) WHEELER of Watford.
His parents married 16 September 1893 at St Helen’s, Wheathampstead, Herts. William died 1929 aged 58; Ellen died either 1945 aged 74 or 1955 aged 84; both in the Watford district.
Cecil was born 1894 in Wheathampstead, and baptised 24 June 1894 at St Helen’s, Wheathampstead. He resided in Watford, and was employed by Mr GREAVES in his gardens at Scots Hill, Rickmansworth, Herts.
On the 1901 Census, aged 6 he lived in Leverstock Green, Herts, with his parents and two siblings. On the 1911 Census, [aged 16] he lived in Sarratt, Herts, with his parents and six siblings [this census form is spoilt, so difficult to read].
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 11 November 1914, and was killed in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Cecil’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
There is an article about Cecil in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 30 October 1915; plus In Memoriams in the issues dated 30 September 1916 and 27 September 1919.
