Born on 17 Apr 1870 in Broughton, Hampshire son of James George and Ellen Hester (Clutterbuck) Edwards. Baptised on 19 May 1870 in Broughton. Educated at Haileybury College 1884-87. He married Francis Helen Edwards in 1907 and they lived in Westfield House, Ross, Herefordshire. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant on 17 Jan 1891, Lieutenant 7 Oct 1892, Capt 1 Apr 1899 and Major 22 Aug 1902. Served in the Sudan, the Nile Expedition 1898, Battle of Khartoum and in South Africa 1900-2. Mentioned in despatches (1902).

Wartime Service

At the outbreak of the war, Major Edwards commanded the depot of the Regiment in Lincoln. He was ordered to mobilise for war and the battalion entered France on 14 Aug 1914 as part of the British Expeditionary Force. After a time in the trenches near Ypres his Lt Col was injured on 8 Feb 1915 at Kemmel and Major Edwards took command of the battalion. They moved to the front trenches at St Eloi and he was hit while observing the enemy on 5 Apr and died of his wounds in No 7 Stationary Hospital, Boulogne.
