Born in 1884 to Fanny Ellis. Baptised on 7 December 1884 in Weston. Married Rose Ellen Edwards in 1909. 1911 Census: Living at Clothall, nr Baldock, Herts with wife Rose Ellen and working as a Coal Porter.

Wartime Service

Enlisted in Hertford, Herts. Killed in action during a heavy bombardment of the trenches and the village at Givenchy-Violaides, west of Bethune.


Walter was the first Weston fatality of World War I.

Additional Information

Monies owing to him and a war gratuity of £5 was divided between his sisters Ada Mary and Sylvia, grandmother Mary and stepfather George.
