He was born in Wrestlingworth in Bedfordshire and resided in Hitchin. He enlisted in Loughton.

Wartime Service

Samuel was given Regimental Number 7756 in the 2nd Battalion which was part of the 25th Brigade in the 8th Division of IV Corps in the 1st Army. He was killed in action in France. This was not long after the Battle of Aubers in the Fromelles area.

He is buried in Plot 6, Row A, Grave 17 in the Royal Irish Rifles Cemetery in France. This cemetery is in Laventie about three miles south west of Armentieres.
