Pre War

Son of Fanny (nee MORRIS) ENSTEN of Watford, and Charles Edmund ENSTEN.

His parents married 15 April 1894 at St Mary’s, Watford.  Fanny died 1921 in Watford aged 54, and was buried 6 August in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Charles died 18 March 1947 in Watford aged 74, and was buried 24 March, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Arthur was born 1899 in Watford, and baptised 8 September 1899 at St Mary’s, Watford.  He resided in Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 2 he lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling.  On the 1911 Census, at school aged 12, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died of wounds received in action.  

Additional Information

There is an In Memoriam for Arthur in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 30 August 1919.

Has a entry in the National Roll of the Great War.

Unfortunately, Arthur’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
