Pre War

Son of James and the late Jane (nee TYRRELL) TYRRELL of Harrow, Middx.


His parents married 2 August 1874 at St Stephen’s, Shepherd’s Bush, London.  Jane died 1891 in the Hendon, Middx, district aged 41; James died 1918 in the Hammersmith, London, district aged 84.


Charles was born 1885 in Harrow, and resided in Watford.


On the 1891 Census, aged 4 he lived in Harmondsworth, Middx, with his aunt and uncle.  On the 1901 Census, a shoemaker’s apprentice aged 15 he lived in Harrow, with his widowed father and three siblings.  On the 1911 Census, he is proving elusive.


Officially recorded as born in Harrow and was living in Watford when he enlisted in Marylebone.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Wealdstone, Middx; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 26 May 1915, and was presumed killed in action.  

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Charles’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
