Pre War

Born on 22 Aug 1868 and baptised on 20 Aug 1871 in Trefilan, Cardiganshire, Wales son of Col. Herbert and Julia Radclyffe Patten Vaughan. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in 1889. Served on the North-West Frontier 1894-95 and 97-98. He was Civil Commissioner in Crete 1898-99 and served in the South African War 1899-1902. Educated at the United Services College 1882-88. He married Dorothy Jean Ashby on 14 Aug 1913 in Maymyo, Burma.

Wartime Service

He fought all over the Western Front. He was killed in action near Le Cateau.

Additional Information

Brother of Major Philip Edmund Vaughan D.S.O. who died in service on 5 Dec 1918 and who is also commemorated on this memorial. United Services College, Westward Ho, Devon amalgamated with Imperial Service College in Windsor in 1912 and then moved to Haileybury College, Hertford Heath in 1942.
