Pre War

Harold Fisher was born in Watford in 1891, the son of James and Harriet Fisher. 


On the 1901 Census the family were living at 75 Leavesden Road, Watford where his father was working as a Asphalt layer. By the 1911 Census they had moved to 152 Harley Street, Willesden.  his father was working as an asphalter for the railway company and  Harold was listed as an unemployed basket worker.


He married Dorothy A Harris in 1913 in Willesden, Middlesex and on pension records their address is given as 30 Winchelsea Road, Harlesden, Middlesex. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Willesden and initially served with the 9th Middlesex Regiment (Reg. No. 2794), later transferring to the 17th Battalion, London Regiment as a Rifleman,  (Ref. Nos 6821 and 573622). 


He was killed in action on 1 October 1916 during the attack on Eaucourt-l'Abbaye, (Battle of the Somme) and is buried in Warlencourt British Cemetery, France. 

Additional Information

His widow received a war gratuity of £7 and pay owing of £2 4s 10d. She also received a pension of 13s 9d a week.
