Wartime Service

Charles enlisted at St Albans, Herts, posted to the Bedfordshire Regiment and issued with the service number 7207. Later transferred to the 237th Company, Machine Gun Corps, with the service number 98324. The 237th Company, MGC, disembarked at Le Havre, France on 14th July 1917.


Charles was Killed in Action on 5th October 1917, he has no known grave, he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium to the missing. Panel 154 to 159. 

Additional Information

Emily received a grant of £5, on 12th November 1917, a widow’s pension of 13/9, a week from 6th May 1918, and his effects of £3-01s-11d, pay owing and his war gratuity of £5-10s-00d. At the time Emily was living at “Roseville” Seaton Road, London Colney, Herts.


1921 Census records Emily as a widow, she is still living at "Roseville" Seaton Road, London Colney, Herts.
