Born on 18 Jan 1882 in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey and baptised on 16 Apr 1882 in St Mary’s, Walton-on-Thames son of George and Elizabeth Mary Fountain. He married Gertrude Emma Bonfield on 5 Aug 1907 at Tewin and they lived in Camfield Cottages, Wild Hill, Hatfield in 1911. He was a chauffeur and had four children. They were living in Mangrove Lodge, Hertford when he enlisted.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Bedford on 28 Oct 1915 and embarked at Southampton on the SS Trafford on 25 Dec 1915 for East Africa and died at 52nd Casualty Clearing Station, Mikesse from blackwater fever having previously suffered from dysentery and malaria.
