Biography

The following text was transcribed from the The Edmundian (1814-1819) – The contemporary magazine of St Edmund’s College:

Alfred Frost joined his brother at .St. Edmund's in 1895, and remained about two years. Although lie had not been seen much at the College in late years, we soon learnt of his joining the army to take his share in the present conflict, and about a year ago we were able to congratulate him upon obtaining his commission in the Middlesex Regiment. We do not know how long he had been at the front, hut in the attack of July 1st, he was seen to be struck in the knee and fall. The soldier who witnessed this was himself soon afterwards seriously wounded, but we learn from him that the ground on which Lieut. Frost fell was subjected to a terrific bombardment by the Germans, and subsequent search failed to discover the wounded officer. It would seem certain that Lieut. Frost must have been exposed to heavy shelling, and no hope is entertained of his escape. Many Masses and prayers have been offered for him within these walls, and the many friends of his school days at St. Edmund's will, we are sure, frequently remember him in their prayers.
