Pre War

Frederick George Webb was born in 1893 in Bishop's Stortford to William and Esther Webb and baptised on 12 December 1895 at Holy Trinity, Bishop's Stortford. On 1901 Census he was living with his family in a cottage at Castle Street, Bishop's Stortford where his father was a barge labourer. Later his home address was at Lock Cottage, Thorley, Herts.

Wartime Service

He first enlisted in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment under Reg. No. 10083. When war broke out he was a serving soldier in India with the 10th Btn Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

He was sent to East Africa and served there from 16 October 1914 and went to France in March 1917 having transferred to the East Surrey Regiment. He won the Military Medal in March 1918. His date of death seems to vary from the 15th to 16th June 1918 according to different military sources, however family sources suggest he was wounded on 3rd June and died on the 4th June.
