Registered as James Percy Webb he was born on 1 January 1880 in Bishop's Stortford to James and Ellen Webb and baptised on 29 March 1880 at Hockerill, Herts. On the 1901 Census he is listed as 'Percy' but when he married Elizabeth Reed in 1908, he again uses his registered name 'James Percy'. On the 1911 Census he was living with his wife and son Percy, together with his sister, brother in law and their son, at 36 New Town Road, Bishop's Stortford and working as a bargeman.

Wartime Service

James Percy enlisted at Sawbridgeworth, Herts and served in the 6th Battalion, East Kent Regiment (The Buffs). He was killed in action near Arras.

Additional Information

A war gratuity of £4 10s awarded to widow Elizabeth as well as pay owing of £3 0s 8d. She was also awarded a pension of £1 2s 11d for herself and her two children, Percy and Constance. His registered name is James Percy Webb, but on some military documents he is named as James or Percy James.
