Pre War
Born in 1890 in Hailey Lane, Great Amwell, Herts. son of Joseph James and Eliza Gillett and baptised on 27 Apr 1890 in Great Amwell.
In 1911 he was living and working as a footman in Regent’s Park, London. Later living in Hindhead when he enlisted.
Wartime Service
Enlisted in Guildford. Lijssenthoek village by Poperinghe held important Casualty Clearing Stations staffed by the R.A.M.C serving the frontline around Ypres.
