Pre War

George Glenister was born in Croxley Green and christened at All Saints’ church on 3 July 1898. His parents were John James and Lizzie Glenister. His father was a coachman.

In 1901 they lived at the Stables, Lady walk House, Heronsgate and in 1911 the family were in Langley, Iver, Bucks. His parents subsequently lived at The Lodge, Park Lodge, Iver Heath. When he enlisted, George was living in Kenton, Harrow.

Recorded as enlisting in Harrow, Middlesex.

Wartime Service

In the period before George Glenister died, the 13th Battalion Middlesex Regiment was heavily involved in the battle of Passchendaele (third Ypres).

On the night of 31st July the battalion attacked and suffered heavy casualties. George died of wounds. The army paid his father John £6 12s 5d including a war gratuity of £3.
