Thomas Goodege was born in 1878 in Northchurch, nr. Berkhamsted, Herts, the son of George and Ann Goodege and one of nine children. 


On the 1881 Census the family were living at Ellesmere Road, Northchurch were his father was working as a railway labourer and his mother was a straw plaiter. 


He married Harriet Louisa Boscott on 26 November 1903 in St Mary's Church, Ealing, Middx. He was then living at Church House, Warwick Road, and working as a gardener. They had a daughter Dorothy May Louise born on 2 July 1905 and on the 1911 Census they were living at the Parish Room, Warwick Road, Ealing, West London where Thomas was again working as a gardener domestic. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted at Ealing, West London and served with the 2nd Battalion, Grenadier Guards. 


He was probably wounded during action at the Battle of Pilckem Ridge, the opening attack of the Third Battle of Ypres and died at No. 35 General Hospital, France on 3 August 1917 aged 37. He is buried in Wimereux Communal Cemetery, France. 

Additional Information

His widow Harriet received a war gratuity of £3 10s and pay owing of £3 19s 6d. She also received a pension of 18s 9d a week for herself and her daughter Dorothy,
