Pre War
William was born in 1891 in Albury, son of William and Emily White.
In 1911 he was working as a farm labourer and his father as a Farm Bailiff, living at Upwick. At sometime he married an 'E'* who was living at 15 Church St Bishops Stortford when he died.
He enlisted in Hertford.
Wartime Service
Said to have served in the Hertfordshire Regt and later in Royal Sussex, at the 27th Territorial Force Depot when he died.
He may have died of an illness and buried in Albury churchyard and possibly this is why he is not on the Albury Memorial, as he did not die in action. A William White of his age is recorded as dying in Chichester registration area in last quarter 1918. This would give his cause of death, if him.
Additional Information
* The marriage has not been found with certainty, but it is probably to Eller Knight, married 1914 and if so a son, Harry, born in 1918.
