Pre War

Born in 1880 in Leeds, Yorkshire son of Joseph and Susan Whiting and living in 20 Horns Mill, Hertford in 1901; husband of Catherine H. Whiting of 8 The Village, Hertingfordbury, Hertford. He was a mechanic.


He served in the Boer War.

Wartime Service

Enlisted in Hertford on 28 May 1902 Private 7211 in the Bedfordshire Regiment of the Territorial Force and was discharged after 12 years’ service on 27 May 1914 having served in South Africa from 4 Nov 1902 to 8 Apr 1903.


He then re-enlisted at Godalming, Surrey and was killed in action in Belgium.
