Pre War

Born in 1884 and christened on 27 Jul 1884 in Ware, Hertfordshire son of William and Emma Wilbourne.

He married Emily Louise Mauser (later Mrs Greenhill) in 1906 in Hertford and had six children. He was living in 57 High Oak Road, Ware in 1914.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Hertford on 4 Dec 1914 formerly 4193 Hertfordshire Regiment, embarked at Southampton on 17 Aug 1915 and joined the battalion in the field on 3 Nov 1915.

He was promoted to Corporal on 7 May and Sergeant on 13 Sep 1916. He was an Anti-Gas Instructor and was wounded on 13 Nov 1916 by a gunshot to the right hand, treated in hospital at Etaples and returned to the front on 22 Dec 1916.

He suffered influenza on 12 Jul 1917 and was repatriated to England on the Hospital Ship Princess Elizabeth.

He returned to France via Folkestone on 16 Jan 1918 and was killed in action in France.
