Son of Anne (nee MURRELL) and the late James GRAY; husband of Blanche Louise (nee FENNALL) GRAY.


His parents married 10 June 1861 at Marylebone Parish Church, London.  James died 1899 in the Chelsea, London, district aged 60.


Alexander was born 1876 in either Kilburn, London, or Highgate, Middx, and married 1898 in the Kensington, London, district; they had one child.  He resided in Watford.  Blanche remarried 26 November 1927 at Holy Trinity, Richmond, Surrey, to Ernest Buckler MARTIN, and died 1947 in the Brentford, Middx, district aged 68.


On the 1881 Census, aged 5 he lived in Chelsea, with his parents and seven siblings.  On the 1891 Census, he is proving elusive.  On the 1901 Census, a railway clerk aged 25, he lived in Watford, with his wife and one child.  On the 1911 Census, a journalist aged 34 he lived in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, with his wife and one child.


Recorded as born in Highgate, Middlx. and was living in Watford when he enlisted in Lambeth, Surrey.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Lambeth, London; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.  

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Alexander’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
