Pre War

In the 1901 census we find Arthur living in Roestock with his parents: James, age 63, a farm labourer and Eliza, age 60, both were born North Mymms. Also on this census is another Arthur who was a grandson, born in Islington, and a brother James who enlisted into the Royal West Kent regiment and fought in France. Arthur Married Sophia East on the 26th October 1901 in North Mymms and in 1911 they were living at 31 Albert Street. The marriage at that time was childless and in 1918 Sophia was living at 58 Osler Street St. Albans.

Wartime Service

The information in the Roll of Honour is a mix of the 2 Arthurs, this Arthur enlisted into the Royal Flying Corp. on the 9th September 1917 and was transferred to the Royal Air Force upon its formation in April 1918, he was based at the R.F.C Depot Milton Berkshire and that is where he committed suicide on Christmas Day 1918.
