Pre War

Born on 21 February 1901 and baptised at St David, Barnsbury in Islington on 7 April 1901, Frank Albert Williams was the son of Ambrose Edwin and Amelia (nee Sheppard) Williams. The baptism record gave their address as 6 Norfolk Road in Islington and the profession of Ambrose as a brewer.

His parents were married on 3 June 1900 at St James Church, Holloway in Islington. Ambrose was 20 years old and he was living at 32 Hollingsworth Street, Islington. Amelia was 24 years old and she was living at 14 Ashburton Grove in Islington. Ambrose was working as a brewer and his father, William Henry Williams (deceased), had been a G.P.O. inspector. Amelia’s father was Joseph Sheppard and he was a labourer.

At the 1901 census, Ambrose and Amelia were living at 6 Norfolk Road. They were aged 24 and 25 years Frank was 7 months old. The birthplace given for all three family members was Islington.

By the time of the 1911 census, Ambrose and Amelia had moved to 13 Francis Street in Wolverhampton and Ambrose was working as a foreman bottler for a brewer. Their ages were then given as 34 and 37 years respectively. Frank was 10 years old and by then had four younger siblings. Their names were Ruby, Beatrice, Henry and Edwin and their ages were 8, 7, 4 and 2 years respectively. Frank Ruby an Beatrice were at school.

The pension card for Frank named Ambrose as his dependant and gave an address of 14 Greatham Road in Bushey. However, it did not show any pension award.
