Pre War

Francis Greygoose was born in 1883 in Stanstead, Essex to William and Eliza Greygoose. (N.B. Stanstead is in the Bishop's Stortford registration district). He was serving in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps in India in 1911.

Wartime Service

He enlisted on 18 November 1904 so was already serving in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps at the outbreak of war. He had only been at the front for 2 months when he was killed, having served in France from 13 August 1914.  


He died during the First Battle of Ypres.


Additional Information

His mother Eliza received a war gratuity of £5 and his pay owing was divided equally between his mother, brothers Jonas, Edward and Sidney, and sisters Rosina, Emily and Lucy.
