Wartime Service

He originally joined the 1st Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment, at Hertford aged 15, and subsequently enlisted in Watford.

He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 16 August 1914, and was killed in action.

Additional Information

There is an article about George in the Watford Illustrated dated 1 May 1915; plus In Memoriams in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 22 April 1916 and 21 April 1917.

His brother William died 10 September 1914 and also features on Watford Borough Roll of Honour.

Unfortunately, George’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
