Pre War

Son of William Henry and Alice GRIFFITH; husband of Alice Maud (nee BANFIELD) GRIFFITH of Golders Green, London.

His parents married 1876 in the Islington, London, district.  William died 9 June 1920 in Watford aged 66, and was buried 12 June in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford.

Percy was born 1877 in Bow, London, and married 1907 in the Hackney, London, district.  He resided in Hendon, Middx.

On the 1881 Census, aged 3 he lived in Hackney, with his parents and one sibling.  On the 1891 Census, aged 13 he still lived in Hackney, with his parents and two siblings.  On the 1901 Census, a commercial clerk aged 23, he lived in Stoke Newington, London, with his parents and two siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a commercial clerk aged 33, he lived in Hendon, with his wife and no children.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Holborn, London; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died of wounds received in action.  

Additional Information

Percy is also commemorated on the family headstone in Watford Cemetery. His part of the inscription reads:

ALSO OF PERCY WILLIAM GRIFFITH [SON] KILLED IN ACTION APRIL 17TH 1917, AGED 38.


Unfortunately, Percy’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
