Pre War

Reginald Clarence was born 1890 in Dagenham to David Thomas Williams, a schoolmaster, and Margaret Ann (nee Jones). They were living at Forest School House, Collier Row, Dagenham.


He was at sometime resident in Harpenden.

Wartime Service

Reginald joined the Essex Yeomanry as Private 1674 in Dec 1914.


He went to France on 19 Apr 1915 joining his unit at Ypres, the main body having been in action since Dec 1914. The Essex Yeomanry were part of the 3rd Cavalry Division and took part in the defensive action of Frezenberg Ridge, during the Second Battle of Ypres 1915. Reginald was killed in this action on 14 May 1915, his remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Menin Gate Ypres.
