Haileybury College Cloister Wall Memorial, Hertford Heath

Born on 1 Nov 1895 in St Catherine’s, Grantham, Lincolnshire son of Edward and Charlotte Sophia Grinling. Educated at Haileybury College 1910-14.

Wartime Service

Commissioned Probationary 2nd Lieutenant R.M. on 22 Aug 1914 and Temp Lieutenant on 27 Mar 1915. Platoon Commander “D” Coy. of Chatham Bn. Embarked with R.M. Brigade on the Cawdor Castle on 6 Feb 1915 heading for the eastern Mediterranean arriving in Malta on 14 Feb. After several expeditions to the Gallipoli peninsula they disembarked at Gaba Tepe on 28 Apr 1915. Lieut Grinling was killed in action at during the attack on Razor Back, Monash Valley, ANZAC.
