Pre War

Son of John and Agnes (nee INWOOD) HALL; husband of Beatrice Maud HALL.

His parents married 1872 in the Watford district.  John died 1935 in Watford aged 83, and was buried 31 December in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Agnes died 1948 in Watford aged 95, and was buried 15 March, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Percy was born 5 February 1887 in Watford, and baptised 2 March 1887 at St Mary’s, Watford.  He attended first Beechen Grove Infants’ School, Watford; then Beechen Grove Board School from 15 January 1894 to 2 February 1900.  His marriage is proving elusive; they had one child.  (However, a Beatrice Maud HALL (re)married by banns 14 March 1921 at St Paul’s, Grangetown, Cardiff, to Herbert HALL.  If so, she died 1943 in the East Glamorgan district aged 55).

On the 1891 Census, aged 4 he lived in Watford, with his mother and six siblings.  On the 1901 Census, a grocer’s errand boy aged 14, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and five siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a Bombardier “H” Battery Royal Horse Artillery aged 24, he lived in Woolwich, Kent, with his wife and one child.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 23 February 1915, and was killed in action in the Persian Gulf.

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Percy’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
