Pre War

Frederick was the son of Arthur and Anne Halsey and born c1899.


In the 1901 census, Frederick was 2, living with his parents and three siblings in 8 Roe Green Cottages, Hatfield.  His Father, Arthur, is a plate layer for the G.N.R. By 1911 the family were living at 3 Cecil Cottages Roe Green, Hatfield with his family.  His father was now working as a farm labourer.


Officially recorded as born in Hatfield when he enlisted in Watford.

Wartime Service

Formerly Private 388880 in the West Riding Regiment although that does not appear on his medal card record. Then 65547, 14th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers


A newspaper report from July 1918 confirms that Pte F G Halsey was from Roe Green and provides his photograph.


The Bishop’s Hatfield Parish Magazine of July 1918, recorded: “We have still a heavy toll of losses to report ................; and on May 27th Pte F.G. Halsey 14th Northumberland Fusiliers was Killed in Action.


Awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Hatfield Parish Council Souvenir Committee Ledger:  Mrs Halsey (Mother) of 3, Cecil Cottages, Hatfield received an “In Memoriam and Roll of Honour Album”.
