Born in 1893 and lived in Great Munden, Herts. son of John and Sarah (Oakley) Hammond.

In 1911 he lived with his married sister Ellen Shambrook and her family in Haultwick, Little Munden working as a farm labourer. Enlisted in Hertford.

Formerly 5680 in the Hertfordshire Regiment.
