Pre War

Born in 1890 in the Cherry Tree public house, Amwell End, Ware, Hertfordshire son of Herbert Samuel and Susan (Nicoll) Hammond and was living in Mount Street, Ware in 1911 and later in 20 Crib Street, Ware. He was a maltmaker.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Ware formerly 1820, entered France on 6 Nov 1914 and was wounded at the Battle of St Julien. He was taken to a casualty clearing station which was then hit by a shell and he was killed.

Additional Information

Brother of Sergeant Herbert Samuel Hammond who was killed in action on 13 Nov 1916 and is also commemorated on these memorials. On forces records as Hirim Hammond.
