Pre War

Born on 12 Aug 1893 son of Philip and Elinor Julia Harbord, of Northwold Lodge, Brandon, Norfolk. Educated at Haileybury College 1907-10.

Wartime Service

Commissioned in the 1st Norfolk Yeomanry in 1915, fought at Gallipoli. On 11 Dec 1915 he was wounded in the neck by a sniper. He recovered and was promoted to Lieutenant in Jun 1916 and served at the Suez Canal. He was promoted to Captain in Jul 1917 and moved to France. He was wounded near Nieppe Forest on 6 Jul and died, probably in Hospital at Sangatte.

Additional Information

Brother of Lieutenant Philip Anthony Assheton Harbord who was killed in action on 1 Dec 1917 and nephew of Lieutenant Lionel Anthony Harbord who also died of wounds on 21 Sep 1919 in Pakistan and all are commemorated on these memorials.
