Pre War

Benjamin was born in High Wych, Herts on the 19th September 1889 one of three children born to Thomas and Jane Woods. In 1911 he was living with his widowed Mother at Pye Corner, High Wych and working as a Gardener Domestic.

Wartime Service

Benjamin joined the 6th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment and arrived in France with the rest of the Battalion on the 30th July 1915. During 1916 and 1917 the Battalion fought in the Battles of The Somme, Arras and Third Ypres. On the 16th January 1918 the Battalion were in training behind the lines when a Drummer was killed when a barn collapsed, Benjamin may have been the man Killed.
