Born in 1886 to Elthea Jane Harris. Baptised at Weston 29 November 1886. Elthea was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Ann Harris who lived at Leatherwells, Halls Green, Weston.


Ernest was the illegitimate son of Elthea Harris who later married Charles Waldock. Ernest was living with his grandparents on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 Censuses but variously described as nephew, grandson (which he actually was) and stepson. In 1911 he was working as a plough boy on a farm.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Hitchin, Herts. Formerly 6351 in the Essex Regiment.



On the Army Register of Soldiers' Effects, he is described as having died as a Prisoner of War.

Additional Information

Formerly 6351, Essex Regt. War gratuity of £5 awarded to sister Florence Waldock. One of their sons, Frank Waldock is also named on the Weston memorial.
