Pre War

Alfred was born on the 3rd October 1900 in St Ippolyts, Herts. The son of Frederick and Mary Harrison. He was Baptised on the 18th November 1900, in the Parish of Little Wymondley, Herts. The 1901 Census shows Alfred aged 5 months living with his Parents, 2 Brothers and Sister Emily at Little Almshoe, St Ippolyts, Herts. The 1911 Census shows Alfred aged 10 at school and living with his Parents, 4 Brothers and Sister Clara at 1 Top Row, Ashbrook, St Ippolyts, Herts. He was one of seven children.

Wartime Service

Alfred enlisted into the Royal Navy on the 22nd October 1918, at HMS Pembroke, a Shore Base at Chatham Dockyard in Kent. With the service number SS/9894. His Service Record Reads: First Served: 22nd October 1918. First Ship: HMS Pembroke. Last Served: 2nd November 1918. Last Ship: HMS Pembroke. He died in the Royal Naval Hospital in Chatham, of Influenza and Broncho Pneumonia on the 2nd November 1918, just 12 days after joining the service. He was buried in St Ippolyts Churchyard, on the 8th November 1918.

Additional Information

Alfred was a neighbour of John Gray who was killed in Action on the 2nd October 1916, while serving with the 6th Battalion, Princes Charlotte of Wale’s (Royal Berkshire Regiment).
