Pre War

Norman Victor (or Vine*) was born in Kingston, Surrey in 1897 to Robert Cecil Harrison and Alice Elizabeth (nee Stafford). On the 1911 Census the family were living at Evelyn Terrace, Kent Foot Lane, Richmond, Surrey. Norman had an elder brother, Robert Stafford and a younger sister Ethel Bird.

Wartime Service

Norman had enlisted on 18 Mar 1915 as Private 3078 in Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), 15th Battalion Civil Service Rifles and went to France on 17 Aug 1915 returning to UK on 13 Nov 1915. 


He underwent training and was commissioned in the Royal Flying Corps on 29 Sep 1916. He was killed while flying a De Havilland DH6 aircraft Serial C7215 of 131 (County of Kent) Squadron, together with his Instructor pilot Capt. S T Saunderson. The aircraft had nose dived to the ground for no apparent reason. 131 Squadron were formed as a training squadron at Shawbury in April 1918 and were scheduled to Kenley, Kent but were disbanded in Aug 1918.

Additional Information

His elder brother Robert Stafford Harrison served in 15th Battalion Royal Fusiliers as Private and was later commissioned in 16th Battalion Royal Fusiliers.
