Pre War

Frank Herbert was born in Barnet in 1899 to Herbert Wynne Yolland , a draper’s commercial traveller, and Alice Elizabeth (nee  Cannon). The family of Father, Mother, Frank and elder sister Marjorie were living at Lynwood, Woodville Road, Barnet, Herts.


On the 1901 Census. On the 1911 Census their address was Sunnydale, Woodville Road, New Barnet and the family now consisted of Father, Mother, Marjorie, Frank and younger sister Frieda.

Wartime Service

Frank attested on 23 Sep 1917 and was placed on Army Reserve. He was mobilised on 11 Oct 1917 and posted on 12 Oct 1917 to 14 Reserve Battalion at Chiseldon as Private 517291 of the 1/14 (County of London) Battalion (London Scottish), London Regiment.


Frank reported sick while at home on leave at 22 Marriot Road, High Barnet and the Medical Report dated 10 Feb 1918 stated ‘that he was not admitted to hospital as he is too ill to move from home. His father desires that he be buried with Military Honours at Barnet.’ Frank Herbert died from pneumonia on 9 Feb 1918 and was interred on 13 Feb 1918 in Bells Hill Cemetery, Barnet.
