Buntingford Town Memorial, We are not aware of any memorial in Layston

Charles was born in Layston, Buntingford in 1890 to Alfred and Louisa. They lived in The Folly, Buntingford. By 1901 they had moved to Newtown, Buntingford.


In 1911 he was still living with his parents and was a carpenter.


Recorded as born in Layston and was living in Buntingford when he enlisted in Royston. 

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Royston. Killed in action.

Additional Information

Charles  is also commemorated on his family’s grave in Layston Churchyard Extension. His part of the inscription reads:

ALSO OF
CHARLES STREET
BELOVED SON OF THE ABOVE (Alfred & Louisa Street)
KILLED IN ACTION JULY 31ST 1916, AGED 25 YEARS.
