Born on 23 Jul 1887 in Nynehead, Somerset son of the Rev. James Arthur and Margaret Augusta (Douglas) Hervey of 48 Cromwell Road, Stanmore, Winchester. Educated at Haileybury College 1901-04. A Civil Servant employed in Fiji from whence he volunteered for service in the War.
