Pre War

Harold was born in Folkestone, Kent in 1896, one of three children born to James and Selina Hogben. In 1911, he was living with his parents at School Cottages, Gilston, Herts and working as a Gardener / Domestic.

Although the text above suggest he was born in Folkestone, the Soldiers Died in the Great War records that it was Gilston and that he was living there when he enlisted in Hertford.

Wartime Service

Harold joined the Hertfordshire Regiment and was given the Service Number 3795. He arrived in France on 10/07/1915, at some point (probably in 1917) his Service Number was changed to 266128.

Harold died at Number 3 Casualty Clearing Station, based in Grevillers, France, on 29/07/17 and was buried in the nearby cemetery.

Additional Information

His surname is spelt incorrectly as Hocben on the War Memorial
