Royal Masonic School Memorial, Rickmansworth

Pre War

Born on 4 Oct 1879 in Barnard Castle, Yorkshire son of Richard and Wilhelmina (Milne) Holmes. Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1886-94. He became a sugar planter in Fiji and married Vera Colquhoun on 16 Jun 1908 in Suva, Fiji and had four daughters.

Wartime Service

He returned to England, obtained a commission in the Royal Artillery in Jan 1918 and entered France on 12 April 1918. He was wounded at Queant in Aug 1918, invalided home and died in No 2. Military Hospital, Edinburgh of influenza and pneumonia.
