Geoffrey Henry Le Sueur Honey was born on 4th October 1890 and baptised on 16th November in Sidcup, Kent to parents Ernest and Helena Maria Gertrude (nee Le Sueur), he had one sister Hilda and in 1891 they were living in Foots Cray, Kent.  His father’s occupation is listed as a fabric printer. 


The 1901 census shows him as a boarder at Bengeo School, Danesbury, Bengeo, Hertford, aged 10, following that he went to Rugby School.  In 1911 he was visiting at 9, St John’s Park, Blackheath, London where his is listed as an engineer. 


He later became a partner in the firm R & T Hughes of Lewisham.  Geoffrey married Ada Gwendoline Powell-Jones on 2nd September 1916 at Christ Church, Surbiton Hill, Surrey.

Wartime Service

At the outbreak of Hostilities he enlisted on 10th August 1914 in Army Service Corps as a mechanic and acting Sergeant MS 2433. 


He went to France on 14 Aug 1914 and was involved in the Retreat from Mons and at the Marne.  He returned to UK to attend Officer Cadet training at Oxford and obtained a Commission (15 Aug 1916) in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps as 2nd Lieut. in the 5th (Reserve) Bn, a training/reserve unit. He was transferred to the 17th (British Empire League) Bn which was formed in Kent and went to France in March 1916.  In July they took part in the first battle of the Somme Campaign, taking part in the battle for the Ancre and Thiepval where he was killed.


His remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Thiepval Monument to the Missing.

Additional Information

Probate records show that he was residing at Thundery Meadow, Lewisham, Kent, and he left £92 3s 1d to his wife Ada.
