Born on 28 Oct 1879 in Hertford son of John and Eliza (Gardiner) Hornby, of Frogs Hall, 39 Hertingfordbury Road, Hertford and baptised on 8 Feb 1880 at St Andrew’s, Hertford and living at 41 Hertingfordbury Road, Hertford in 1891. He lived and worked with his brother Charles as a coach painter’s apprentice in Islington in 1901 and was back with his parents in Hertford in 1911 working as a painter. He was unmarried.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Hertford, entered France on 26 Jul 1915 and died in service.
